I got flowers! Just kidding
What's worse than not getting flowers? Getting flowers and finding out they aren't for you! That's what happened to me on Saturday.
I saw something moving on the front porch so I went out and found a balloon tied to a beautiful vase of flowers. I quickly tried to remember the date to see if it was a special date for me...hmmm September 21st, that didn't seem like a significant day for me but I was excited anyway.
Well, it didn't take long to figure out this mystery...the note card read, "Anne and John, Congratulations on your special day. May you have a lifetime of happiness together." Cue the Debbie Downer music "wah, wah". Obviously Anne and John were getting married. The address was correct and I recognized John's name as a previous owner of our house but the funny thing was he hasn't lived here since 2002, and there has already been another owner of this house in between him and us! So the people who sent the flowers knew him well enough to know he was getting married, but not well enough to know he had moved 11 years ago!
While I was trying to justify to myself why it was okay to keep the flowers, Mr. H picked up the phone and called the florist to inform them of their mistake. Gee, what a good guy. Even then I was still hoping they would say, "Thanks for being so honest! You can just keep them and we'll send out a new arrangement to their correct address." No such luck. They told us they'd be back to pick them up. Oh well, at least I got these pretty snapshots while I was pretending they were mine.

They should have let you keep them even if they were not yours as a business strategy! Perhaps next time you needed to order flowers for someone special you would think of those "nice florists" who let you keep John and Anne's flowers!..Sometime people can't think ahead...sad...well like you you say...at least you got pretty pictures! Thank You for sharing I'll keep my fingers crossed so next time a real big one is Just For You!
ReplyDeleteYou're so right Lizbeth...not a smart move from the florist ;) Lovely greetings, MJ
DeleteAww, thanks ladies! I agree, it would have been a good business decision to let me keep them!
DeleteGreat shots of the flowers! At least you got to enjoy them for a while, and you ended up with a great story to share.

I wonder if Anne and John ever got their second-hand flowers. I agree with Lizbeth, the florist should have let you keep them.
ReplyDeleteOh my what a cute story. Well they were yours for a while. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeletehahaha, your still lucky you got to enjoy them and share them with us at least!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bad luck...haha, such a shame, the flowers look lovely at your place ;)....but I totally agree with Lizbeth McGow...not such a good move from the florist...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend, love MJ
They should of let you keep them, but what a funny story! thanks for sharing the pics.
ReplyDeleteI so agree, you should definitely still be the owner and they should grace your lovely home! That florist obviously doesn't have a clue when it comes to acquiring new customers - very bad business decision!

Well you didn't get to keep them but you did get a bit of blog candy for free :) Can't complain about that, right?
ReplyDeleteOh I guess blog candy is a giveaway... or whatever it is. I should say you have eye candy for the blog at no charge. That is the glass half full approach!
DeleteI can't believe the florist took them back, now that's just mean especially as you were so honest! They were so pretty too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a letdown! Oh well, you had them for a little while. Good luck to the florist in finding someone who moved 11 years ago!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a funny post! I can just imagine it happening to me. Thankyou for visiting my blog - I have stopped answering comments on the post itself as other bloggers have told me they don't see them! so in answer to your question elderberry is tart - you need to boil the berries with 50% sugar which makes it fattening but delicious - when it thickens you have a lovely cordial, a tablespoon is good to sooth a sore throat as it kind of coats - if you pour it in a glass it sticks to the sides kind of thing ... it's high in vitamin C - I make it every year to drop in my champagne on New Year's Eve and save the rest for days when we have colds. I hope you find the berries where you live but perhaps I am lucky living in the UK that they grow like weeds! Betty
ReplyDeleteBeautiful arrangement. How lucky you are.... although just a little while. I can enjoy 'your' flower arrangement.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, and of course they should have let you keep them. They do make a very pretty blog post. It is funny about the old address; we have lived here nearly ten years, and still receive mail for old residents, despite years of sending back with a Return to Sender note.
ReplyDeleteWell the pictures are lovely. Maybe you were only meant to have them for a few moments. They did inspire you to write this post and I think the post is wonderful. I do think the flower shop missed the boat. Someday the owner will wonder why things aren't going so well!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely and what a fun story. Do you know if the florist ever found the correct address? I believe your husband is now bound to give you flowers!
ReplyDeleteYou had the lovely flowers for a bit of time and really that's all we get with cut flowers. You didn't have to watch them fade and fall apart.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your Etsy shop. I will head over to check it out.
aw no ! but you enjoyed them for a little while and hopefully "lady Karma" will reward you for such honesty !! Very pretty blog post.

that is so funny! we still get mail for the previous owners/renters...7 years and counting
ReplyDeleteWell I suppose photos last longer than flowers, but hopefully you'll get some more fresh ones soon!
ReplyDeleteOh darn, I was sure they'd let you keep them. They sure are pretty though! I have a feeling your hubby will be surprising you with a bouquet of your own very soon.
