I've mentioned before that I am not a seamstress but I can use a sewing machine and sew a semi-straight line. So with those two skills I thought I would try my hand at making a baby quilt!
I was inspired by my friend Jamie who is 8 months pregnant. Last month she was telling me about how she and her husband could not agree on the bedding for the crib and after looking at the photos she showed me on-line, I told her, "Hey, I could try to make you a quilt!" I wasn't trying to decide the bedding choice for them, this would be more of a quilt to lay the baby on in the living room or just to snuggle in. She gave me a very doubtful look but tried to sound positive and said, "Okay...go for it!" She is such a sweetheart and wouldn't say it herself, but I could see it in her face that she was thinking, "Oh gosh, she's going to make me a baby quilt and I'm going to have to pretend to like it!"
We knew the baby was going to be a girl so I went to Hobby Lobby and picked out the fabric you see above. I cut the patterned fabric into 1 square ft pieces for the front and used the pink fabric for the back. Here it is all sewn together! I think it turned out okay for my first attempt at making a quilt!
I thought it would be fun to personalize it so I traced a "g" into some fabric and hand-stitched it on the back. G is for Gianna!
It was so much fun that I'm going to make a quilt for my friend Julie who is due this winter. She's having a boy!
Awesome! these are perfect gifts and totally something worth keeping! Can't wait to see the other one! love the new look btw!
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like you have a talent for quilting. I just pulled my sewing machine out today to make some pillow covers. Now I am thinking a quilt would be fun to make too. Haven't made one since last year.

I think you have to call yourself a seamstress, now, because your quilt turned out fantastic! It's very cute. I'm sure Jamie is pleasantly thrilled with it. I know I would be! Lucky moms to-be to have such good friends.
ReplyDeleteLove the choice of fabrics, contemporary but perfect with the girlie pink backing - and of course it's reversible too. Addition of the monogram is a great finishing touch...............yes, seamstress you are dear! Your friend must be thrilled with such a lovely baby gift. You will enjoy making the next one I know................hope you share with us later.

ReplyDeleteOh, this baby quilt is so cute, Khammany. I love the colors in it too. My sister sews quilts, and I have always thought it was such a talent when one can sew. The big "G" adds a nice touch. What a special gift.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend.

It's absolutely lovely! I can't believe this was your first quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh I really like it! Love the aqua fabric. I hope you found some help with binding. I think you tube videos are very helpful. I always have to re-figure it out when I put on the binding, but I do like the hand stitching. I know how exciting it is to finish your first quilt. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I hope you see you around. Take care.
